Citrus County
In the quaint, friendly towns of Citrus County, you can travel back in time to the stately plantations and historic sites of the Old South, including the Yulee Sugarmill, a pre-Civil War relic that inspired our community name.
You'll also find a wide variety of more contemporary attractions, such as the Citrus County Speedway and the Printing Museum. Just 5 miles from Sugarmill Woods, you can take a leisurely river boat ride down the picturesque Homosassa River to the Gulf of Mexico.

On your way back, stop in and dine dockside at famous establishments such as Sea Grass, Margueritta Grill, the Ale House, Crackers or Riverside Resort on the River.
And if you really want to get away from it all, you can take a boat ride from Riverside Resort down the crystal-clear Homosassa River to Sunset Island.

The constant 72 water temperature of these springs attracts many visitors, including the world's largest concentration of endangered West Indian manatees. The island-dotted Nature Coast is also home to an amazing variety of wading birds, such as the wood stork, blue heron and snowy egret. "View Live Manatee Cam"
Citrus County is a land of rolling hills. Elevations ranging from sea level on the Gulf of Mexico to almost 300 above sea level.
Seven pristine rivers run through this uniquely unspoiled part of the state each fed by crystal clear water that rushes up from deep underground springs.

Golf is great year around, in Citrus County! With more than a dozen courses to choose from, you can easily find the perfect challenge to match your skills. With so many courses to play on, long waits for tee times are rare and play usually moves along at a pleasant pace.
Remember the sun shines almost every day, all year long. So, golf, tennis, boating, horseback riding, horseshoes, shuffleboard, etc., can be enjoyed almost any day you choose!
Citrus County enjoys an average winter temperature of about 60 degrees and an average summer of about 81 degrees. We really have a three season climate; spring, fall and a long summer.
The only thing missing are the severe, freezing temperatures and of course the snow! Sea breezes from the Gulf of Mexico and frequent showers minimize the summer warmth and provide ample moisture for farm crops, home gardens and plants.

The average rainfall is nearly 50 inches per year and most important, the average humidity is a low 65%, as compared to the lower sub-tropical parts of Florida, which so many people find completely unbearable to reside within during the summer season.
Citrus County has two modern hospitals and various medical facilities with over 175 general practitioners and specialists serving the growing, vibrant communities of the area. Citrus Memorial Hospital was named one of the top 100 hospitals in America.
Worship at a church of your choice. There are more than 76 locations, representing all major denominations and faiths within Citrus County.

Citrus County has an excellent education system that is known for its thorough preparation of students. Citrus County schools are committed to a strong basic skills program that stresses reading, communications and mathematics.
The necessities of living are, of course, in abundance, like of plenty of nearby shopping, with a collection of unique shops and restaurants with loads of charm. There are major food chains, department stores, and various markets throughout the county. Major shopping centers are found throughout the Citrus County area, with large stores such as K-Mart, Belk Lindsey, Sears, Walgreens, Bealls, Walmart, CVS, Home Depot, Lowes, Publix, Sweet Bay, and Winn Dixie Supermarkets.
There are several major shopping malls within driving distance from Citrus County, the famed Simon's 76 store 400,000 plus square foot mall in Crystal River. Restaurants include Applebee's, Outback and a new Chili's.

Citrus County is the home to two general aviation airports. One is in Crystal River, which is located at the northeast corner of U.S. 19 and Venable Road. The other airport is located on U.S. 41 approximately two miles south of Inverness, adjacent to the Citrus County Fairgrounds.
There is nothing quite like gliding down the river or a creek in a canoe. For the experienced canoeist, the Withlacoochee River offers an 83 mile canoe trail . One of the best is the Chassahowitzka River and campground which offers canoe rental.

| The Crystal River National Wildlife Reserve is 46 acres and can only be reached by water. It still attracts thousands of visitors every year. Some choose to dive, fish, and snorkel while interacting with the manatees.
Bird watching is one of the many forms of recreation here in Citrus County. Birdwatchers can choose a variety of habitats that include salt and freshwater marshes, hammocks, uplands, forest and prairie, swamps and lakes.

Our central west coast location also gives easy access to all of Florida's exciting and enjoyable attractions such as Disney World, Epcot Center, Universal Studio and Sea World, all just 80 miles from our doorstep.
Busch Gardens in Tampa or Raymond James Stadium, home of football's Tampa Bay Buccaneers is only a short 65 miles away.

| Back in Citrus County we have the famed Homosassa Springs attraction and neighboring Silver Springs in Ocala just an hour away. Weeki Wachee on our Southern border near Spring Hill is also a short drive. |
