In the picturesque, friendly towns of Citrus County, you can travel back in time to the impressive plantations and historic sites of the Old South, including a pre-Civil War relic, the Yulee Sugarmill, that inspired the name for our community.

You'll also find a wide variety of more current attractions, such as the Ted Williams Baseball Museum, the Printing Museum, the Citrus County Speedway, and the Naber Doll Factory.

You can take a leisurely river boat ride down the breath-taking Homosassa River to the Gulf of Mexico just 5 miles from Sugarmill Woods. Stop in and dine dockside on your way back at the various famous establishments such as Sea Grass, Margueritta Grill, the Ale House, Crackers, or Charlie Browns Crab House on the River.

You can also take a 40-minute boat ride from Charlie Browns Crab House down the crystal-clear Homosassa River to Sunset Island. Citrus County is a land of beautiful rolling hills with elevations ranging from sea level on the Gulf of Mexico to almost 300’ above sea level.

Through this uniquely unspoiled part of the state run seven rivers each fed by crystal clear water that rushes up from deep underground springs.

Many visitors are attracted to the constant 72º water temperatures, including the world's largest concentration of endangered West Indian manatees. An amazing variety of wading birds, such as the wood stork, blue heron and snowy egret also make this island-dotted Nature Coast their home..


In Citrus County golf is great year around! You can easily find the perfect challenge to match your skills with more than a dozen courses to choose from.

Long waits for tee times are rare and play usually moves along at a pleasant pace because of the large variety of courses to play on. Remember almost every day, all year long the sun shines.

Almost any day you choose, golf, tennis, boating, horseback riding, horseshoes, shuffleboard, etc., can be enjoyed !

Enjoyed in Citrus County are an average winter temperature of about 60 degrees and an average summer of about 82 degrees. We really have a three season climate; fall, spring and a long summer.

The only thing missing are the harsh, freezing temperatures and of course…the snow! From the Gulf of Mexico are sea breezes and frequent showers which help to minimize the summer warmth and provide plenty of moisture for farm crops, home gardens and plants.


On an average rainfall is nearly 50 inches per year and the average humidity is a low 65%, as compared to the lower sub-tropical parts of Florida, which a large number of people find completely unbearable to reside within during the summer season.

Citrus County has two modern hospitals and various medical facilities with over 175 general practitioners and specialists serving the growing vibrant communities of the area. Citrus Memorial Hospital was named one of the top 100 hospitals in America.

Worship at a church of your choice in Citrus County with more than 76 locations to choose from, representing all major denominations and faiths.

The education system is excellent in Citrus County and is known for its thorough preparation of students. Citrus County schools stress reading, communications and mathematics and they are committed to a strong basic skills program.
Of course the necessities of living are in abundance, like plenty of nearby shopping, with a collection of fine restaurants with loads of charm and a variety of unique shops.

There are many major food chains to choose from such as Publix, Kash n’ Karry, Winn Dixie Supermarkets and specialty markets throughout the county.

Major shopping centers are found throughout the Citrus County area, with large stores such as K-Mart, Belk Lindsey, Sears, Walgreens, Beall’s, Walmart, CVS, Home Depot and Lowes. There are several major shopping malls within driving distance from Citrus County, the famed Simon’s 76 store 400,000 plus square foot mall in Crystal River. Restaurants include Applebee’s, Outback and Chili’s.
